The road in Mauritius, an East African country, has been named after Bangabandhu.
On Thursday, a road in the country’s capital, Port Louis, was renamed ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Street’.
In a video message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked the Mauritius government and said Bangabandhu’s birth centenary was being celebrated at home and abroad. The naming of Bangabandhu Road in Mauritius will further strengthen relations with the country. Expatriate Welfare Minister Imran Ahmed said in a video message that Bangladesh-Mauritius relations would go to another height through this.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said it would be a testament to the relationship between the two countries. More than 20 thousand workers are working in Mauritius, said the country’s Deputy Prime Minister. Anwar Hossain said Bangladesh has been assisting them in various fields including trade.
