The ruling Awami League has distributed 312 nomination papers for the upcoming 61 municipal elections.
Nomination forms were distributed at the party’s Awami League president’s political office in Dhanmondi from 11 am to 5 pm on December 8.
The proposed candidates have bought the nomination forms in the resolution of the organization signed by the president and general secretary of the concerned district, Upazila, and municipality Awami League. At the same time, the candidates have collected nomination papers on the instructions of the party president Sheikh Hasina in compliance with the health protection rules and without any kind of public meeting. Besides, many candidates have collected and submitted applications through qualified representatives.
Elections for 61 municipalities are scheduled to be held in the second phase on January 16.
