Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the developed countries to take forward and promised mitigation measures besides climate financing to implement the goals of the Paris Agreement.
He made the call in a video message at a virtual conference marking the 5th anniversary of the historic Paris Agreement. The conference is co-hosted by the governments of Chile and Italy, the United Nations, the United Kingdom, and France.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and European Council President Ursula von der Leyen also addressed the conference.
The conference was also attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emanuel Macron, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “The reality is that climate change will never stop, and its harmful effects will not spare anyone.” Despite many obstacles, Bangladesh has played an important role in the world in taking adaptive steps. Developed countries should be more active in this regard.
