The body of a Pakistani rights activist deported to Canada has been recovered

The body of exiled Pakistani rights activist Karima Baloch has been recovered in Toronto, Canada.

Various human rights groups have called for an investigation into the incident. Toronto police said in a tweet on Monday that Karima Baloch was last seen in the Bay Street area on Sunday.

Karima Baloch had been missing since Sunday. Later on Monday, Karima Baloch’s friends and colleagues said her body had been identified. But the cause of his death was not immediately confirmed.

The 37-year-old rights activist from Balochistan, Pakistan, was a fierce critic of the Pakistani state and military. In 2016, she was nominated as one of the 100 most inspiring women on the BBC.

Karima Baloch was the former head of the now-banned Baloch Student Organization in Pakistan. He has been living in Canada since 2015. At that time, he expressed his fear for his life and sought refuge.
