‘Students need to be able to speak English’

UGC professor and prominent academician. Fakrul Alam said, "Students in the region need to acquire special skills in English to build themselves as skilled human resources for the 21st-century employment." Fakrul Alam said this at a virtual seminar organized by the English Department of International Standard University (ISU) on Sunday evening.

Professor Fakrul added, ‘Students need to acquire the skills to speak English and to understand English, they need to read a variety of English articles, short stories, including textbooks as well as English daily magazines. In particular, the international media, such as BBC radio, YouTube, including the cooperation of all media to make yourself proficient. Students of English literature need to improve their analytical ability by studying contemporary literary theory. '

Speaking as the chief guest at the virtual seminar, ISU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul Awal Khan said, ‘Most of the students in the country are not able to achieve the desired success in English due to lack of qualified teachers, proper curriculum and management. I firmly believe that the ISU will play its due role in filling this gap. "

Lecturer Mahiya Khanam presided over the seminar while K Ahmed Alam, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Chairman of the English Department presided over the seminar.
