He told a UN Security Council meeting on Monday that Southeast Asian nations should not ignore the ongoing internal unrest in Myanmar.

He said skilled UN representatives should work with Myanmar's military to prevent further violence. Incumbent Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the meeting that UN special envoy to Myanmar Schraner Bergner had been in regular contact with Myanmar's military since the coup began.

He has worked to bring democracy back to the country. Guterres called on regional leaders to come forward to prevent further violence and restore a peaceful environment.
