The trial of the former police officer who killed Floyd began
A court hearing has begun in Minneapolis against Derek Chauvin, a former police officer who killed black youth, George Floyd. The first day's hearing began at 4 pm local time in Hennepin County Court on Monday.

During a four-hour hearing on a 12-member panel of judges, both sides presented their arguments. Chauvin's lawyers are claiming his innocence. They say he has served the force for 19 years.

On the other hand, the plaintiff's lawyer said that Chauvin pressed Floyd's neck and back with his knees for 9 minutes and 29 seconds because of his ego. Meanwhile, protests against police killings have resumed in the United States this week.

Hundreds of people also protested against police killings in Minneapolis on Monday. George Floyd, a black man, died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 20 last year.
