6 bodies wrapped in plastic recovered from car in Mexico

The bodies of six people wrapped in plastic have been recovered from a car in southern Mexico.

Authorities said the bodies were recovered Thursday, local time.

Prosecutors say the body was found in a plastic bag inside a car in Chileapa, Guerrero State. They also said that the incident is being investigated.

Over the years, there has been an increase in the number of mutilated bodies being dumped in public places or hung on bridges in Mexico. Violence is often centered around the drug trade.

Earlier, on January 6, the bodies of 10 people were recovered from a car abandoned in the central Mexican state of Zacatecas. In June last year, 18 bodies were recovered in the state after clashes between two groups of drug smugglers.

According to the country's official sources, in the first 10 months of 2021, 948 people were killed in violence in the state of Zakatekas. 342 people were killed during the same period last year. It is estimated that 340,000 people have been killed in various drug-related violence in Mexico since 2006.
