Biden is hosting his granddaughter's wedding at the White House

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are planning to have their granddaughter Naomi Biden's wedding at the White House this fall.

Next Monday, Naomi, 28, is going to marry her longtime partner Peter Neal, 24, and the Biden couple is planning to hold the ceremony on that occasion.

Naomi and Neil met in New York City through friends years ago. The couple, who now live in Washington, D.C., are still in the early stages of planning a wedding and have not announced where the wedding will take place.

But the Biden couple's announcement marks the first time in more than a decade that the White House has hosted a wedding of a member of the president's family.

"Me and mine," Naomi tweeted on Monday afternoon, "I'm grateful to my grandparents (Joe Biden) and Pop (Jill) for giving me and my fianc Peter Neal a chance to celebrate our wedding at the White House.

"Elizabeth Alexander, Jill Biden's chief public relations officer, told the New York Times in an email that the wedding could be held on November 19. However, since the bride and groom have not yet set the date for the wedding, guests may have to wait longer for more details.

"The Biden couple, the bride and groom and their parents are still in the process of planning all aspects of the wedding and hope to announce more details in the coming months," he wrote.

Naomi, the daughter of Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, and his ex-wife, Colin Bull, is now working as a lawyer in Washington. And Peter Neal is a law student at the University of Pennsylvania.

Arranging weddings for members of the president's family at the White House is a relatively rare event.

The last such event was held at the US President's office and residence in 2008. The wedding of Jenna Bush, daughter of then President George W. Bush, was held there. In 1971, President Richard Nixon hosted his daughter's wedding at the White House.
