No-confidence motion dismissal order: Pakistan's Chief Justice

The deputy speaker's order rejecting the opposition's no-confidence motion against Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan was wrong. That is what the country's Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial said. He said that even this decision is against Article 95 of the constitution.

The no-confidence motion was declared "unconstitutional" on Thursday and was rejected by Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri The Chief Justice made this remark after the hearing of the Supreme Court.

The hearing was conducted by a five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial. The other four judges are Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Mazhar Alam, Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel.

During the hearing, a copy of the order issued by Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri on April 3 dismissing the motion of no-confidence against Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan as 'unconstitutional' was signed by Speaker Asad Kaiser. The matter was brought to the notice of Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel.

Naim Bukhari, their lawyer, was presenting arguments on behalf of the speaker and the deputy speaker at the suo moto hearing on the validity of the deputy speaker's order. Then this judge brought the matter to his notice.

Earlier, the area around the Supreme Court was covered with a security blanket to prevent violence in today's hearing on the no-confidence motion.

Opposition groups called for a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan in the lower house of parliament on March 28. A no-confidence motion was tabled in the National Assembly on March 26. As a rule, a minimum of three days to a maximum of seven days can be taken to start negotiations after raising a proposal. Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri on Sunday rejected the proposal, which was postponed several times in Parliament after the motion was moved. After that the President dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of the Prime Minister. On the day of rejection of the no-confidence motion, the Supreme Court took the hearing on its own initiative.

He has faced the biggest challenge this time after being elected in 2018. Opponents have accused Imran of financial mismanagement and wrong foreign policy.
