France's Education Minister Gabriel Atal has been appointed as the new Prime Minister.

President Emmanuel Macron appointed 34-year-old Gabriel Attal as prime minister on Tuesday (January 9). Popular and media-savvy, Attal had been considered a rising star in French politics for several years.


It is known that Atal is a close ally of President Macron, former minister and government spokesperson. Gabriel Atal is the youngest Prime Minister since the beginning of the French Fifth Republic in 1958. Atal is also the country's first prime minister who openly identifies himself as gay.
