Tshering Tobgay, the top leader of the country's political party People's Democratic Party (PDP), is going to become the Prime Minister after winning the recently concluded elections of Bhutan. The PDP won two-thirds of Bhutan's parliamentary seats in the election.

58-year-old Tshering Tobagy is a politician, environmental movement leader and lawyer. Before that, he was the Prime Minister of Bhutan from 2013 to 2018. The parliament of Bhutan, a Himalayan country, is bicameral. The National Assembly, the lower house of Parliament, has a total of 47 seats. The National Assembly elections were held on Wednesday, January 9.



The PDP won 30 of the 47 seats in the National Assembly, according to Al Jazeera, citing the Bhutanese Election Commission and the state-owned television channel Bhutan Broadcasting Service. Bhutan Tendrel Party won the remaining 17 seats. Tshering Tobagh's predecessor, Prime Minister Lotte Tshering, and his political party Druk Nyamrup Shogpa (DNT) won no seats.

The country held its fourth parliamentary election on Wednesday after transitioning from a traditional monarchy to a democratic regime in 2008. Bhutan has an exceptional feature compared to other countries in the world. This is the only country that officially conducts an index called 'Gross National Happiness'. This index monitors and reviews the standard of living of the people of the country.

However, during this year's election campaign, the PDP emphasized on the country's economic growth and various related issues. The country has been suffering from a reserve crisis for the past few months. Such a crisis has not come before in the history of the country. According to Bhutan's official statistics office, one in eight people in the country is currently food insecure. Apart from this, unemployment and unemployment are increasing day by day in the country.

Bhutan, a country with an area of 38 thousand 394 square kilometers, has a population of 7 lakh 27 thousand 145 people, a total voter of about 5 lakh. Most of them voted in Wednesday's election.
