Queen Margareta addresses the people every year on New Year's Eve. His speech was telecast live on Sunday (December 31). At that time, Queen Margareta said that she is leaving the throne on January 14.


Queen Margaret is 83 years old. He ascended the throne in 1972. He is the longest-reigning head of state in Europe since the death of British Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022. Queen Margaret had successful back surgery in February last year.


In yesterday's speech, Queen Margareta said, "The surgery naturally made me think about the future." I thought about the time to leave the responsibility to the next generation. I decided, now is the time. On January 14, 2024, I will step down as Queen of Denmark, 52 years after succeeding my beloved father. My son, Prince Frederik, will succeed me on the throne.
